Merc Fans Blur Win Outstanding Contribution to Music BRIT Award

Ever since the heady days of 90s Britpop, when the boys were regulars at the Merc flagship Carnaby Street store, we’ve loved a bit of Blur. Now, 21 years after the release of their debut album, Leisure, Damon, Graham, Alex and Dave were awarded the Outstanding Contribution to Music gong at last night’s BRIT Awards.

As their sound developed from the early baggy leanings of There’s No Other Way, to the lo-fi American-influenced indie rock of hits like Beetlebum via the cheeky chappy Britpop stylings of Parklife and The Great Escape which firmly established them on an international scale, so did their style. But through all their looks - the sharp Mod inspired tonic-suits to their ubiquitous Harrington and polo shirt combos - Blur’s look has always remained quintessentially English. If you want to grab a bit of classic Blur style, as well as our aforementioned Harrington jackets and classic men's polo shirts, check out the Braham Knitted Polo (£65) or Bayston Summer Parka (£140) from our new collection.

Congratulations to the Blur boys and all the winners, particularly to the other successful Merc fans - Ed Sheeran, who scooped two gongs – Best British Breakthrough Act and Male Solo Artist, and One Direction. Great work!
